Society to sponsor shelter open house

LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will host an open house from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.

The society is inviting area residents to take a closer look at the role the animal shelter plays in enhancing the quality of life in the community.

There are many ways to help the shelter: attend the open house event, offer a donation of needed supplies, spread the word about responsible pet ownership, volunteer time at the shelter or at one of the shelter’s special events, report animal cruelty and neglect in the community or choose a pet from the animals being cared for at the shelter.

The society provides a haven for more than 5,000 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. Primary support comes from fundraising events and donations of residents.
