Telstar Girl Scouts lend a helping hand

MEXICO – Several Telstar Girl Scouts participated in a food and bottle drive on Nov. 22 to benefit the GRAMPA food pantry, housed in the Mexico Congregational Church. The girls went door to door, asking members of the community to donate bottles and nonperishable food items.

Earlier this fall, Troop 676 donated $200 to the food pantry. Members of the Brownie troop raised the money by selling cookies, magazines, nuts and candy. The girls not only decided to donate their money, they asked the food pantry coordinator, Sue Byam, if she would hold onto the money, and use it when the food pantry is hit hardest: winter.

The Telstar Neighborhood includes more than 200 Girl Scouts from Andover, Byron, Canton, Carthage, Dixfield, East Andover, Hanover, Mexico, Peru, Roxbury, Rumford, Upton and West Peru.
