AUBURN – A convicted sex offender being sought by police in Auburn was found and arrested late Thursday in the York County town of Shapleigh.

Joshua Robert Irving, 28, was arrested Thursday night by York County Sheriff’s Department, Auburn police said.

A spokesman at the York County Jail in Alfred said Friday night that Irvin gave officials an address of 8 Tattle St. in Shapleigh. Records did not indicate whether he was arrested at his home, the official said.

Irving was released at 11 a.m. Friday on $200 cash, according to the jail.

After a conviction in 2000, Irving was required to register as a sex offender and to notify police of his home address.

Police said Irving recently moved out of an apartment on Winter Street in Auburn without notifying them about the move, as he is required to do in accordance with sex offender laws. Once they discovered that Irving was gone, they secured a warrant for his arrest charging failure to register as a sex offender.

It was not immediately clear why Irving had gone to York County or if he had made arrangements to live there.

In 2000, he was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor. He was 19 years old when he had sex with a 14-year-old girl in Jay, police said.

Police in Auburn are assigned to keep tabs on local sex offenders to verify their residences. Irving’s departure from his apartment was discovered during a routine check, police said.
