PORTLAND (AP) – Sen. Olympia Snowe is renewing her call for a new federal economic stimulus package following a government report that the nation lost more than half a million jobs last month.

The Labor Department said Friday that employers cut 530,000 jobs in November, the largest one-month drop since 1974. Unemployment now stands at 6.7 percent.

Snowe said she is advocating a broad-reaching economic stimulus and recovery package to give a boost to the national economy.

She said Congress should enact legislation that will create jobs, reduce the rate of home foreclosures and help the unemployed.
