NEWRY (AP) – For these Santas, it was all downhill Sunday.

A legion of 210 Skiing Santas, some from several states away, took a break from their December activities to go skiing at the Sunday River resort in western Maine to raise money for charity.

The so-called Santa Sunday lets skiers wearing a Santa costume and bearing a $10 check for local charity ski for free. Santas who showed up for the 9th annual event also got two more lift tickets for use later this month.

The ski area said the Santa who came farthest for the Yule season event is from Maryland.

Donations go to the Bethel Rotary’s Christmas for Children’s campaign.
