FARMINGTON – A postal vehicle and garage door were vandalized with spray paint Sunday night, said police Chief Richard Caton.

After hearing reports of a spray-painted marijuana leaf and a red hammer and sickle found on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington, police Officer Darin Gilbert found the postal vehicle paintings along with one done on a wall in the alley beside the Broadway Barber Shop at about 1 a.m. Monday.

A green marijuana leaf was painted on the vehicle while the back garage doors had the red hammer and sickle, which police believe was done with a stencil.

Near an entrance to Preble Hall and along the walkway behind Dearborn Gym, a few marijuana leaves and the hammer and sickle sign were also found about 10 feet apart, said UMF Public Safety Chief, Ted Blais Monday.

Campus police believe the vandalism was done late Sunday but had been cleared by Monday, he said.

Anyone with any information about the graffiti is asked to call Farmington police at 778-6311.
