Seniors dinner

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls High School sophomore class is sponsoring a free community holiday dinner for area senior citizens at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in the high school cafeteria.

Through donations from area businesses, a dance the class held and donations from parents, the class is able to offer the meal free. The menu will include turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, peas, cranberry sauce, pies, coffee and punch.

The students have also planned holiday entertainment, including Christmas music and a short Christmas skit. Students have been giving tickets to grandparents and other senior citizens they know. There will also be door prizes.

Tickets are still available. Interested seniors can contact Sue St. Pierre at the high school.

Hymn sing

STARKS – There will be the annual United in Christ Presbyterian Church Christmas hymn sing ant turkey supper on Saturday, Dec. 13. The hymn sing will be at 4 p.m. at the church on Locke Hill Road followed by a turkey supper with all the trimmings at 5 p.m., next door at the Memorial Hall.

Society program

TEMPLE – The Temple Historical Society will welcome members and guests at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Temple Town Hall.

Jeanette Stevens will present a program on the “Schools of Temple,” with history, photos and maps showing some of the 10 to 12 schools that were built here from 1811 to 1950.

Society meeting

WEST PARIS – The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Finnish American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St.

Following a brief business meeting, Dale Piirainen will give a preview of the new interactive Web site followed by a coffee social. The gift shop will be open in anticipation of Christmas and a handbag raffle will be held.

There will be no meetings during January, February or March. Meetings will resume on April 19.

After school

PARIS – The Paris Public Library continues to offer its after-school program on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Participants will have a variety of activities, including read-alouds, seasonal crafts, board games and puzzles. Snacks are provided.

For the remainder of December, the read-a-louds will feature the works of Robert Munsch.

Santa to visit

OTISFIELD – Santa will visit from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the town office. Caroling will take place outside while waiting for Santa’s arrival.

After Mr. and Mrs. Claus arrive, they will help light the Christmas tree, then they will go inside for snacks, cocoa and a free photo with Santa. After the photo is taken, Santa’s helpers will lead music and dancing outside.

Going caroling

NORTH WATERFORD – The Rev. George Frobig invites area children and adults to meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the North Waterford Congregational Church, Five Kezars Road, to go Christmas caroling.

The carolers will visit shut-ins and elderly residents in the North Waterford and Stoneham area. The group will return to the church in time for a potluck super at 5 p.m. More Christmas carols and a visit from Santa will follow the supper. In case of severe weather, the snow date will be Sunday, Dec. 21.

A candlelight Christmas Eve service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24. Frobig invites all church members and friends to attend the traditional service of Christmas music and scripture readings.

Christmas concert

CASCO – A “Music for the Christmas Season” choir concert, under the direction of Eugene Long, with accompanist Lynn Foss, will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Casco Village Church United Church of Christ.

“A Christmas Breath” will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in the sanctuary. There will be candlelight and soft peaceful music.

Christmas Eve services will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, traditional family service, and 11 p.m., caroling candlelight service, with choir singing at both.

PARIS – A community Christmas dinner will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Christmas Day, Dec. 25, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris.

NEWRY – The Oxford County Public Safety “Cruisin’ For Christmas” will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Grand Summit Ballroom, Sunday River. Proceeds will benefit the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.

A social hour will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6. Price is $60 a couple or $30 a single. It will include dinner, entertainment and music.

Every person attending is asked to bring a new wrapped gift for a boy or girl. There is a wish list that can be sent out if requested.

Helping pantry

DIXFIELD – Barbara Lane of Peru, owner of Hot Colors Screen Printing and Design of Norway, is planning a community service event from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, in the parking lot of Log Cabin Craftworks, 31 Main St.

She will give free T-shirts to the first 100 people who donate either $5 in cash or four nonperishable food items to the food pantries of the Mexico Green Church, which is organized by Sue Byam, and the East Dixfield Common Baptist Church, under the direction of the Rev. Ken and Linda Hinckley. She will screen print the shirts with an original holiday design.

Byam has indicated some specific needs such as jams and jellies, canned meats, jarred spaghetti sauces, ketchup, mustard, relish, beans, brown bread, canned vegetables and prepared foods in cans.
