During this, the season of many holiday traditions, let me tell you of one of my favorites. Our family has a tradition of going to the Lewiston Vineyard to see Nativity Live! I have been both a beloved viewer and a privileged actor in this Christmas production. Nativity Live! is the largest event at the Vineyard Church. Last year’s production saw 2,700 people in attendance, up from 1,400 the year before. This year we’re expecting more than 3,000 guests to walk through our doors. It takes 4,500 cookies and over 300 volunteers working up to six months in advance to make this event happen. The purpose of the event (it’s not just the show, but the decorations, refreshments, wagon rides, carolers, petting zoo, etc….) is to tell the ancient Christmas story in a fun and creative way and present the evening as a gift to the Central Maine community. It’s all free of charge. This year, items from the Smithsonian Institute will be displayed as well, and there is, of course, the annual drawing for an XBOX that is an additional draw!

VCS has a special connection with Nativity Live!; Robbi Starnegg, founder and director of King’s Bridge Theatre and director of Nativity Live! is a former VCS drama teacher. She is also a current member of the VCS school board. This year, some in our Vineyard Christian School community who are privileged to be a part of this year’s production are two teachers: Mrs. Doreen Demarest, Mrs. Michelle Davidson, as well as three students, Holly Davidson, Rian Emano, Brendan Gee. And although the VCS community thinks King’s Bridge and all its productions are awesome, we sure would love to have Mrs. Starnegg back to teach drama!

According to Mrs. Starnegg, the mission and vision of King’s Bridge Theater is that “we are storytellers. Our mission is to entertain, explore truth, celebrate life, and enhance the discovery of who we are really meant to be… all through the telling of stories. The Company is committed to the belief that every person is valuable, representing truth and human nature in all honesty, serving the community in which we live, celebration and hope, encouraging emerging artists who have a story to tell and exploring the spiritual dimension of life.”
