WILTON – Erland Whittemore, 89, of Wilton, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the hospice House.

He was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Bowdoin, the son of James B. and Georgietta (Fickett) Whittemore.

He was a 1937 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. On Nov. 15, 1941, in Norway, he married Helen A. Whittemore of Bethel. She predeceased him on Feb. 28, 2004. From 1943 until 1946, he served in the U.S. Army and was in the 704 Military Police Battalian.

For many years, he was employed at Boise Cascade Paper Co., retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Wilton Senior Citizens, the Mystic Valley Grange and the Rumford American Legion. He was a loving and devoted husband who enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Rackliff and her husband, Dennis, of East Dixfield and Earline Frost and her husband, Bruce, of Wilton; six grandchildren, Bruce Alan Frost, Karen Frost, James E. Frost, Brian Rackliff, and twins, Beckie and Blaine Rackliff; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also predeceased by two brothers, James Whittemore and Donald Whittemore.
