Dear Sun Spots: Whom do I contact to get a season pass to Reid State Park as a Christmas gift for my family? – Carol, Oxford.

Answer: The State of Maine Department of Conservation sells both vehicle and individual day passes that can be used at all State Parks except Baxter State Park, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, the Penobscot River Corridor, Penobscot Narrows Observatory, Maine Wildlife Park and Scarborough beach. The vehicle pass allows all the occupants of the vehicle free day-use of the park. Vehicle passes are $60, individual passes are $30.

To purchase a pass, call the Bureau of Parks and Lands and have a Visa, Discover, or MasterCard ready. Speak with Charlene at (207) 287-2209. The department noted that they will process your payment right away and you should receive the pass within one or two days. Someone will be available between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., but leave a message anytime.

Also purchase a pass by mailing a check or money order to: Department of Conservation, Attn: Reservations Office, 22 SHS, Augusta, ME 04333-0022. Make your check payable to: Treasurer, State of Maine.

Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for a teddy bear that comes with a Lisbon High School letterman’s jacket. I commonly see these at CVS in Lewiston (for Lewiston High) and Ace Hardware in Bath (for Morse High), but I can’t find one for Lisbon High. I’ve tried Rite Aid and Aubuchon Hardware in Lisbon, but no luck. Hopefully one of your readers will be able to tell me where to find one. A woman I work with collects them and she can’t find Lisbon High. Thank you. – No Name, Lewiston.

Answer: The manager at the Ace Hardware in Bath supplied us with a name and number of the company they order the bears from. Hometown Products located in Pelham, N.Y., may be contacted at 1-866-705-4474. Price per bear is $29.99, plus shipping and handling. Jackets are offered in eight colors and all come with beige sleeves. For samples and color choices, visit www.hometownproducts.com.

Dear Sun Spots: Every year I get my calendar from Rexalls Drug store. There is no more Rexall Drug store, they sold out. This is where I get my calendar every year around Dec. 10. Outside of the calendar it says 2008 weather/appointment calendar and handy hints. I just love this calendar, especially the handy hints.

Their address is Handy Hints, Creative Publishing, 1608 South Dakota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57105. I don’t find a phone number to call. Can you help me find where I can find one? The calendar is printed for the place that gives them away. They are free here at Howard’s Rexall Drug Store. If anyone out there gets one of these calendars please let me know. This is my second Bible. Contact me at (207) 778-6780 or 152 Mosher Hill Rd., Farmington, ME 04938. – Barbara Titcomb, Farmington.

Answer: A search of the address you provided led Sun Spots to Mary Mortenson, project manager at Creative Publishing. She told us if you’d like to purchase one of these specific calendars, please send your request with a check for $5 and your mailing address to the address on your 2008 calendar or e-mail Mortenson at mary@sparklight.org. You may also call the sales department at 800-423-7158.

Dear Sun Spots: The Families in Crisis Task Force would like to thank all those who attended our fundraising event Saturday, Nov. 29, and for all the donations of toys and money received that will benefit the children of Oxford County. We were able to raise $675 and received several toy donations. This is a great start to getting the toys and funds needed for this holiday season. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the Oxford Advent Christian Church for the use of their facilities, Chris Rose and crew of Channel 6 News for the coverage of this event and Leslie Dixon and staff at the Lewiston Sun Journal. It is great to see all the support from individuals, families, groups and businesses during this time.

The holiday season is known as a time for giving and even in these hard times it is great to see so many willing to help those in need. We have heard from people from several counties offering assistance. We are very grateful for all the helpers out there and the people with great words of wisdom and great ideas. We are still in need for this holiday season. We are still short several hundred toys. If you would like to help out, please send donations to Families in Crisis Task Force, 659 Park St., South Paris, ME 04281. Our contact number is (207) 357-7072. Toy donations may be dropped off at the Family Counseling Services office at 659 Park St. (Rt. 26), South Paris. There are boxes in the waiting room to place them in. Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. – Peggy Turner, program director.
