Joyce Morton was the first-place winner of the gingerbread house contest held Dec. 6 as part of Chester Greenwood Day in Farmington. Morton also took first last year, the first year for the contest.
Greenwood Day events well-attended
FARMINGTON – Chester Greenwood Day activities were well-attended this year, said Lorna Nichols, executive director the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.
Barclay’s of Wilton was theme winner for its historic Farmington themed entry in the annual parade. Camden National Bank won the originality category and Wiles Funeral Home came in first for appearance.
Parade winner in the youth category was New Hope Baptist Church of Farmington, Nichols said.
Six large pots of chili went quickly as participants were able to have a taste after the judges finished their work.
Tom Sawyer of Farmington took first place, followed by Cara Whipple of New Sharon, second place, and Anna Lyon of Wayne, third place.
A detailed rendition of the Franklin County Courthouse created by last year’s gingerbread contest winner, Joyce Morton, took first prize in that contest. The gazebo in Meetinghouse Park created by Forster Technology Center, took second and another gazebo creation by Nancy Stuart of Mt. Vernon came in third.
In the youth division, Victoria Cushing of New Sharon won first place.
