RUMFORD – Roger Octave Delepine, 90, of 23 Young’s Park Road, Mexico, died Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Rumford Community Home with family by his side.
He was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Cancale, in the Brittany province of France.
Educated in Cancale, he enlisted with the Free France Merchant Marine and became a naval officer during the World War II Nazi occupation of France. While his ship was being refitted in a New England seaport, he met and married Martha Boudreau, a nursing student from Maine. Once the war ended, he became a U.S. citizen settling in Martha’s hometown of Mexico, where they raised their five daughters. He retired from the Rumford Paper Mill, where he was employed for more than 30 years.
He was a faithful communicant of St. Theresa’s Church and a member of the local Le Paresseux.
Surviving are Roger’s five daughters, Denise Fairchild and Elizabeth Lozier of Portland, Mrs. David (Cathy) Thurston and Mrs. John (Patty) Kidder of Rumford and Mrs. Jay (Christine) Gerrish of Mexico; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Martha; and a granddaughter in 1993.
Roger’s family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff and many individuals who through the Rumford Community Home were such a special and important part of Roger’s remaining days.
