TURNER – Senior guard Courtney Anderson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with her seven assists as Leavitt pulled out a 54-45 victory over Cony in KVAC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Hornets (2-1) made excellent use of rebounding to counter Cony’s impressive outside shooting as four of Leavitt’s players notched double-digit rebounds. Hannah Whitaker scored 13 points and hauled down 10 rebounds, while Newton Adrianna and Abbey Randall collected 11 boards each.
Senior guard Courntey Dufour paced the Rams (1-2) with 12 points in the losing effort.
Nokomis 34, Mt. Blue 33
FARMINGTON – Sabrina Vaillancourt sank a free throw with two seconds left Saturday to lift Nokomis over Mt. Blue, 34-33, in a KVAC contest.
Mt. Blue (0-3) rallied from a 25-18 deficit to tie it late in the fourth quarter. Johanna LaPlant led the Cougars with nine points. Jenna Pederson and Kristin Trask added six points apiece.
Marissa Shaw paced the Warriors (1-2) with 12 points. Nokomis held Mt. Blue to nine points in the first half.
Waterville 58, Oak Hill 17
WATERVILLE – The Waterville Panthers overwhelmed Oak Hill through three quarters and coasted to a 58-17 triumph.
The Panthers (3-0) jumped out to an 18-1 lead after one quarter and extended the advantage to 33-4 and 50-6 at the quarter breaks.
Morgan Frame led the Panthers with 20 points, whilee Jen Nale added 15. Ambyr Provost was the lone player for Oak Hill (2-1) to score more than one field goal, finishing with four points.
Lake Region 43, G-NG 35
GRAY – Lake Region used a 16-5 run in the third period to break the game open for a 43-35 victory over Gray-New Gloucester.
The Lakers (3-0) were clinging to a 16-14 lead before the pivotal third quarter. Meghan Craffey led the Lakers with 14 points and Chelsea Meyers added 11.
Kassie Wilson led Gray-New Gloucester (2-1) with nine points and 13 rebounds.
Gould 23, Hebron 22
BETHEL – Michelle Kravetz notched a game-high 11 points to lead Gould to a 23-22 triumph over Hebron in girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Huskies (2-1) took a 14-11 lead at the half, before slipping a bit in the third quarter. But, Gould outscored the Lumberjacks (1-3) by a pair in the fourth quarter.
Meghan Munro was the leading scorer for Hebron with nine points.
Jay 43, Monmouth 11
MONMOUTH – Junior forward Hillary Deane drained 12 points as Jay routed Monmouth 43-11 Saturday.
The Tigers (3-0) kept the Mustangs scoreless in the first quarter and finished the half at 24-3. Beth Moore chipped in with eight points for Jay.
Senior guard Bethany Neal led the Mustangs (0-3) with five points.
Mt. Abram 66, Telstar 49
BETHEL – Senior Kenni Norton scored a stratospheric 32 points to lead Mt. Abram to a 66-49 victory over Telstar.
The Roadrunners (2-0) sprinted to a 26-12 first-quarter lead before things settled down over the next three quarters. Mikayla Burbank chipped in with 13 points for Mt. Abram.
Sophomore forward Cheyanne Day led the Rebels (0-2) with 16 points, while Kayla Merrill added 14 points. Brianna Douglass and Emma Davis collected 14 and 11 rebounds, respectively, for Telstar.
Carrabec 40, Mtn. Valley 36
NORTH ANSON – Megan Murray drained 11 points to lead Carrabec to a 40-36 victory over Mtn. Valley in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
Randi Kaplan hit a key 3-pointer and Carissa Booker nailed four free throws in the fourth quarter to carry the Cobras (2-1) to victory. Booker recorded 10 points for Carrabec.
Meagan Maifield recorded a game-high 14 points for the Falcons (1-2).
Girls’ hockey
Leavitt 2, Brunswick 0
AUBURN – Goalie Brie Stanley made 11 saves to notch her second shutout of the season as Leavitt froze out Brunswick 2-0 in girls’ hockey.
The Hornets (3-2) scored a single tally in each of the second and third periods on goals from senior defenseman Maria Dumont and junior center Sarah Durgin.
