DURHAM – The Durham AMVETS Post 13 hall at 1049 Royalsborough Road will be open as a warming center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday for residents who are still without power. Meals will not be provided, but there will be plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate available.

As of late Saturday afternoon there were still 13 roads in town without power, said local Emergency Management Director Deborah Larrabee, who is coordinating the warming center. The center was opened on short notice from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

At the height of the ice storm 20 roads were without power, she said. Among those still affected by the outages Saturday was Durham Fire and Rescue communications, as there was no power on Brickyard Hill Road where the radio repeater tower is located and the tower was switched to a standby generator.
