Springfield – Rose A. Hutchins, 79, of Hanover, died unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 8, at Springfield Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

She was born in St. Stile, P.Q. Canada, on July 2, 1929, a daughter of George and Cordelia (Robitaille) Veillette.

She attended schools in Canada and Rumford. She was employed as a waitress at Freddie’s Lunch and for 18 years at Madison Motor Inn. Prior to this she was employed at Diamond National, Bass Shoe, Gorde Howe’s General Store and as a housekeeper for the late Betsy Baker.

She was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church for many years. Following her marriage to her second husband, Melburn F. Hutchins, she attended Pleasant Valley Bible Church in West Bethel, where she was active in the Awana Youth Group. She was also a volunteer in the church and would help out wherever needed. She was a volunteer with the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

She loved cooking, wood painting, working with crafts and attending craft fairs and making Christmas mice and clowns that were sold all over the U.S. She enjoyed her Monday night club night with her girls.

She also enjoyed her daily trips to McDonald’s for coffee and because of her love for children, she would always give each child she saw some money. While her husband Melburn was home with a stroke, Rose would spend many hours baking 20 pies at a time to help him with his recovery, and anyone who came to visit would go home with a pie.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Darren, Brad and Mike Worcester, Joshua Swan and Stacy Fidler, and all of her stepchildren, who will always remember their Gram for her famous peanut butter pie.

Even though she suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years, she always kept her sweet sense of humor and made everyone around her smile.

This is to you all, love Gram.

Surviving are her daughters, Gail Worcester and husband, Bill, of Hanover and Debra Swan and husband, Bruce, of Springfield; stepdaughters, Rae Ann Hutchins Luce and husband, Ralph, of Strong, Olivia Morrell and husband, Donald, of Belgrade and Maureen Abbott and husband, Tim, of Phillips; three sisters, Alice Thefault of Canada, Noella Harris of Bridgeport, Conn., and Gabrielle Moore of Rumford Point; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Maynard Chase in 1954; her second husband, Melburn Hutchins on Dec. 1; brothers, Paul and George Veillette; and a sister, Yvonne Trombetta.
