RUMFORD – Teresa M. Picard, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 11, at her residence on Falmouth Street in Rumford.

Born in Rumford on July 5, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Laughlin and Faye (Mitchell) McInnis. She married Lionel R. Picard on April 30, 1956, he passed away on Aug. 14, 2001. She was formerly employed at Oxford Paper Co., Berst Forster Mill in Peru, Edwards & Co. in Norwalk, Conn., and summer camps at Rangeley.

She was a founding member, historian, secretary and director of the Rumford Area Historical Society. She was also a life member of the Maine Old Cemetery Association and Carthage Historical Society. She was a charter member of the Friends of the Maine State Museum. She was a volunteer at the What-Not-Shop for 16 years. She enjoyed hiking, gardening, genealogy, reading and spending summers at the camp on Roxbury Pond.

Survivors include three sons, Leonel Picard of Rumford, Guy Picard of Northfield, Vt., and Alfred Gallant Jr. of Portland; a brother, Ellis McInnis of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; grandchildren Michael and Christopher Picard; several nieces and nephews; and many stepgrandchildren; and great-grandchildren

Despite recent health setbacks, Teresa was a woman of strong will and as a doctor said, “full of fire.”

She will be deeply missed by her loved ones.
