AUBURN – Arthur James Cass Jr., 75, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 13, at his home in Auburn.

He was born in Lewiston, on March 20, 1933, the son of Arthur James Cass and Alice Louise (Higgins) Lothrop, he was a graduate of ELHS, Class of 1953.

He married Leona (Elaine) Perry on Oct. 30, 1953, and they made their home in Auburn. He was a carpenter by trade for more than 50 years, working for Bell Construction, Johnson and Brushwein, Bob Shaw, Hearth and Cricket and American Concrete, makers of Shawnee steps.

He was a builder of his own home, a fixer of most things. A good neighbor to all, he was always willing to help those in need. He was ready to make a friend, whether standing in a line or befriending the clerk behind the counter with a kind word. He was also a gardener and feeder of birds and was also responsible for relocating many gray squirrels from his neighborhood to your.

He was a raiser of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved one woman for 55 years. He was a holiday decorator and precise shoveler of snow and a looser of misplaced pencils. He was best friend to his middle son, who would not be where he is today without him. Dad, you will be missed, you are loved.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Donald E. Cass and his wife, Diane, of Auburn, Gerald (Jerry) A. Cass and his wife, Joyce, of Poland and James F. Cass and partner, Frank Stinehour, of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren, Patrick M. Cass, USN and Ashley Marie Fitts and husband, Jeremy, of Poland; three great-grandchildren, Alivia Cass Bergeron and Veronica and Zoey Fitts; stepmother, Dorothy Cass of Alpine, Calif.; three half sisters, Virginia L. Salisbury of Massachusetts, Melody Antonson of Oregon, and April Blair of Gardiner; two half brothers, Timothy and Steven Cass of San Diego, Calif.; stepsister and friend, Pennie O’Brien of Poland; and many brothers and sisters at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Lewiston.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by stepfather, Frank R. Lothrop; and two stepbrothers, Murray Lothrop and Buzz Sears.
