AUBURN – Lorraine M. Powers, 80, of Portland passed away Monday, Dec 15, at The Hospice House, with her family at her side.
She was born in Portland, April 13, 1929, a daughter of John and Agnes Johnson of Westbrook. She attended Portland schools. She was employed by Porteous, Mitchell and Braun, Shaw’s West Gate and Manpower of Portland. She enjoyed interacting with the students at Portland High School for many years while working in the guidance office. After retirement, she and her husband wintered in Florida, and summered at Sebago Lake at their family camp.
She is a former member of the Rebeka Lodge of Portland. She and her husband were active members of local square dancing and skin diving clubs and as officers and members of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church.
Some of her favorite pastimes were alpine skiing and golf, Elvis Presley’s music and watching Tiger Woods play golf. Sebago Lake has always played an integral part in her life. Beginning with meeting her future husband at Harmon’s Beach, to building their summer cottage at Lakehurst in Windham. Which still today is the hub of the families summertime activities. She will always be remembered for her kindness and her devotion to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly never will be gone, she will always be in our hearts.
She is survived by her husband, Roger A. Powers of Portland; two daughters, Patricia J. Croteau of Litchfield and Susan L. Pratt and husband, Timothy, of Lyman; six grandchildren, Wayne R. Diffin Jr., Roger L. Diffin and his wife, Karla, of Minot, Dawn M. Hodge and husband, Ryan, of South Portland, Sean S. O’Donnell and wife, Mary, of Lewiston, Brianne K. O’Donnell of Portland and Robert C. Croteau of Bangor; five great-grandchildren, Sean S. O’Donnell Jr. of Lewiston, Madison L. Morrin of Cape Cod, Mass., Zoe P. Diffin of Westbrook, Taylar M. Hodge of South Portland and Lucy L. Diffin of Minot; and sister-in-law, Joanne Kennedy of Portland.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John A. Johnson Jr. and Albert Johnson; sister, Nathalie Baka; father-in-law, Miney C. Powers and wife, Marion, of Portland.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Karim Yaoub, St. Mary’s Hospital and the staff of the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn for their kindness.
