RUMFORD – The combined choirs from the Rumford United Methodist Church and the Mexico Congregational Church will present a cantata, “The Miracle of Christmas,” by John Innes, in the Virginia Chapel of the Methodist Church, Linnell Street, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21.

The group will be directed by Judith Kuhn and accompanied by Cindy Bohren. Soloists will include Kelly Harvell, Pat Dyke and Jim Robertson plus a duet by Robertson and Paul Larsen. The public is invited to the free presentation.

Other special events at the Rumford United Methodist Church will include a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, Dec. 21, when there will be a special reading to all the children by Melissa Munzner and her daughter, Natasha, titled “Starlit Night.”

It is the Christmas Story seen through the special cookies that are made at Christmas. Special music, “The Holly and the Ivy,” will be performed by Alyssa and Kailey Akers plus “Silent Night,” sung by all of the children. At the end of the story children will distribute cookies to the members of the congregation.

Following the morning service there will be a family potluck lunch with a birthday cake for Jesus and the appearance of Santa Claus.

On Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24, there will be a service at 5 p.m. with special music by the choir and at the conclusion of the service, the singing of “Silent Night” with an obligato played by cellist, Carolyn Bennett.
