The Republican Party has been floundering and without leadership since the disastrous Bush presidency. In the latest election, John McCain sought to offer some of the much desired and looked for leadership. He, along with Governor Palin, quickly became the newest “far right” celebrities, but it soon became clear that the majority of Americans did not tend toward the far right that Palin’s appointment had sought to assemble. With the Democratic Party’s recent monopolization of Congress, the 2010 mid-term elections are going to be especially critical for all of the incumbent Republican seats that are going to be contested. If the Republican Party wants to retain its influence, it becomes increasingly important that they prevent a filibuster proof Democratic House and Senate. The only way to prevent that is for the incumbent Republicans to retain their seats. With the party reeling from the recent election results, a new charismatic leader’s presence has never been more welcome and necessary to help them regain their footing in Congress.
