If you heard cackles echo through the school recently, don’t worry, it was just theater practice.

October 20 and 21 brought the highly anticipated nerve-racking audition process for the musical the “Wizard of Oz,” to be performed in early January.

Before it began, nervous conversations could be heard between friends. Many first timers questioning their abilities and wondering if they’d get a part.

In the end, however, most decided to go through with the audition. In fact, the number of girls was so high that each only had time to read in one scene of the audition process.

“I’m going back for the second night (of auditions) because I didn’t think I stood out enough,” says Abby White, a sophomore. The feeling was shared by many as the second night of auditions saw many of the same people as the first. Nearly 30 girls sought to be Dorothy, the main character, while still large groups tried for the Good Witch, Glinda, and The Wicked Witch of the West.

Due to the high number of girls auditioning, many newcomers found themselves as leads on Wednesday morning, the day the cast sheet was posted. Many surprises for all, as the new generation of actors is welcomed.

Dorothy: Lily Ramser; Wicked Witch: Meagan Maguire; Glinda: Alana Mallar; Scarecrow: Keith Lemelin ; Tin Man: Tom Hite and Lion: Jessie Juntura.
