Board: Sabattus Board of Selectmen

Met: Tuesday night

New surveillance system

Issue: The town office is monitored by eight security cameras inside and outside the building. The system is in need of an update.

The scoop: Police Chief Thomas Fales recommended buying a new system with a 320 gig hard drive; instead of having to continuously record over old surveillance footage, this new system would keep images for up to four months.

Up next: The board approved the $1,004 purchase, with $306 coming out of Fales’ budget.

Paving bill settled

Issue: Selectmen agreed to a bid for $294,637 for paving and grading work last summer by Harry C. Crooker & Sons.

The scoop: This fall, when the bill came in, Crooker had added $28,596 on top of the bid price, citing an increase in the cost of liquid asphalt.

Up next: After an executive session, selectmen agreed to Crooker’s offer to settle the additional bill for $10,200.

Legislative visit

Issue: State Rep. Stacy Dostie and state Sen. John Nutting briefed the board on their plans for the coming Legislative session, impending budget cuts and three potential citizen referendums that involve buying health care from other New England states, halving the excise tax and requiring a statewide vote for future tax increases.

Up next: Selectmen Mark Duquette and Jeff Baril offered to lend their support to both representatives by going to Augusta.
