As I left church Sunday morning, I noticed an elderly woman walking in the snow. She must have walked 10 blocks to get to the Basillica of St. Peter and Paul in 4-degree weather. I drove her home and she told me her story (we all have them): she is alone, without children or husband, and lives in a very poor part of town. She will not be walking anymore.
As I left her, I saw a woman using a walker in the snow, no coat, no hat, no socks and she was about to walk two miles to seek shelter with a friend. I drove her and listened to her story; it was very sad, my heart broke.
The moral of my story is that after going through bankruptcy, I was feeling sorry for myself, so God had a little talk with me to open my eyes. He told me I am blessed to have a husband, son and a wonderful family; material things are just that, material.
So this season, think about what you have in your heart and thank God for every blessing, no matter how small. I am simply blessed to have socks on my feet.
I will thank God everyday for them.
