VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (AP) – A man has been accused of stealing more than a dozen cameras from a Long Island office supplies store by hiding them inside a box of paper and paying for that.

Nassau County police say the man used metal cutters to open a display case in a Staples store in Valley Stream a week ago and remove 16 cameras worth more than $2,100. They say he put the cameras inside an empty paper box, used a shopping cart to wheel the box and some cases of water to a cash register and paid $102 for everything.

A store manager discovered the broken cabinet and called police.

Detectives say their investigation led to the thief’s home in Baldwin, where he was arrested Monday. They say he’s charged with grand larceny and criminal mischief.

The cameras haven’t been recovered.
