RUMFORD – The previously known Mountain Dews is now dubbed the Maine Ski Challenge. The giant slalom race series will be contested at Black Mountain of Maine, Lost Valley, and Spruce Mountain.

The weekly series starts Jan. 4 and ends March 8. Races will be held on Sundays at 1 p.m.

All racers with a valid lift ticket or a season’s pass can purchase a race bib for only $4.

Skiers and snowboarders of all ages are welcome. Racers will take two runs, and their best time is counted.

Points are earned throughout the series and based on participants’ five best finishes. Racers must take part in a minimum of five races to qualify for the Best of the Best.

First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded each week, which include: an adult day lift ticket for tubing or skiing, a 10-inch one topping pizza from Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shop, or two 2-litre bottles of soda from Pepsi.

This year’s Best of the Best will be held at Lost Valley in Auburn, where racers will compete for larger prizes.
