FARMINGTON – Tickets for the Jan. 24 Farmington Inaugural Ball will go on sale Monday, Jan. 5, at three locations in Franklin County.
All proceeds after expenses will be donated to the Franklin County Ecumenical Fuel Oil Fund that assists those in need of heating fuel in the area.
Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis for $5 per person, $3 for students with valid identification, at Mickey’s Hallmark on Main Street in Farmington, Food City in Wilton and My Dad’s Place in North Jay.
Attendance to the 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, event at the University of Maine North Dining Hall will be limited to about 200 people due to fire regulations.
Initially admission to the event was going to be free but organizers have to pay for various expenses, Tim Wallace, one of several organizers, said.
It was decided that a modest fee would be charged to help defray expenses and maximize contributions to the charity, Wallace said.
Contributions may also be made to the heating fund above and beyond the admission prices.
Live music will be provided by the Farmington-based Shepherd’s Pie Band.
Music to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama will include ballroom-style jazz, classic rock and roll, soul and pop.
There will be other inaugural-type activities taking place. Food and a cash bar will also be offered.
“This is a community celebration, but we have already received food and beverage contributions from as far away as California,” organizers said in a press release.
