PORTLAND (AP) – Thanks to a $45,000 grant, the state has acquired digitizing equipment that enables it to preserve significant historical documents.
The scanning equipment is already being used to archive Arctic explorer Adm. Robert E. Peary’s papers at the Harpswell Historical Society and items from the Colonial Pemaquid Archaeological Collection in Bristol.
The grant from the Davis Family Foundation and the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation was awarded to Tom Desjardin, historian for the state Bureau of Parks and Lands.
The equipment will be available for use by other historical groups around the state.
