LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls High School cafeteria was filled with the sights, sounds and scents of Christmas on Dec. 13 as students from the sophomore class gathered to prepare for a holiday dinner for area senior citizens.
Students, teachers and parents prepared dinner, decorated the cafeteria and provided holiday entertainment for the honored guests.
The menu consisted of turkey and gravy, stuffing, peas, mashed potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce and homemade pies. Tables were decorated with festive tablecloths and centerpieces made by students, under the direction of class adviser Kym Bryant.
A holiday skit, “How Santa Got a Tree,” was performed by class members, including Liz Cote, Lexie Neidner, Keith Jewett, Thomas Bizier, Taylor Bubier, Liz White, David Newman, Caylee Morris and Sam Chabot.
Holiday music was provided by Holden Parker, Keith Jewett, Sam Chabot and Lauren Faeth. The evening concluded with the presentation of door prizes, which included table centerpieces, gift cards, poinsettias, a quilted table runner and baked goods.
The event was planned as a community service project for the sophomore class. Earlier this year the students and their advisers talked about ways in which to give back to the community and it was agreed that it was time to show appreciation for senior citizens. The dinner allowed the students to extend a thank-you to them.
Parents of the Class of 2011 gave of their time and talents by assisting the students with cooking and decorating, and SAD 36 Food Service Director Penny Jackman helped with planning and preparation.
