LEWISTON – The Lewiston CareerCenter announces the January workshop and Unemployed Professionals Group schedules.

The Lewiston/Auburn Area Unemployed Professionals meets weekly from 1-4 p.m. at the CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way. Topics and presenters are as follows:

Jan. 5, “Essentials of Business Communication,” with Ken O’Quinn, a corporate writing coach from Cape Elizabeth.

Jan. 12, “How to Get a Job You Want, Not Just a Job,” with Janet Cohen, of Cohen Leadership Consulting, Hallowell.

Jan. 19, No meeting, Martin Luther King Day.

Jan. 26, “The Evolution of Cherri Inc.,” with Cherri Waters, Inc.

Registration is not required and there is no cost to attend.

Workshops and events available during January at the CareerCenter include:

“Career Decision Making,” offered Jan. 5, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with follow up on Jan. 9, 9 a.m.-noon. This workshop is also available Jan. 12, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with follow up on Jan. 16, 9 a.m.-noon; or on Jan. 20, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with follow up on Jan. 23, 9 a.m.-noon. This is a two-part workshop for those thinking about a career change. The workshop explores factors that affect career decisions; helps people identify interests, aptitudes and experience; discusses the tools available to research education and labor market information; and, guides people in developing a career plan. “Résumé Basics and Interview Skills” will be offered Jan. 8 and again Jan. 22, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Explore the basics of resumes and applications and learn more what can make a resume or application stand out in a positive way. “Budgeting through Tough Times” will be offered Jan. 16 from 2-4 p.m. This workshop is for those whose household income has decreased, or those worried about layoffs. Attendees will learn how to maximize limited income and protect credit ratings. Registration is required. Call 753-9005 or TTY: 877-796-9833.

CareerCenter employment and training orientation is offered weekly. Inquire at the information center for a schedule or call 753-9005.

A higher education adviser will be available Jan. 9 or 23 from 1:30-3 p.m. She can speak about options to attend college, will help explore college choices based on interests and career goals, and talk about financial aid to make college a reality. Registration is not required, but call 753-9005 to verify she is in.

An adult education adviser will be available Jan. 7, 14, 21 or 28 from 10:15-11 a.m. to discuss options to improve job skills and adult education programs. Registration is not required.
