KINGFIELD – People returning bottles and cans to Old Mill Redemption Center can help others by donating the refund to the heating fund, organizer Jack McKee said.
Realizing a need this winter, McKee urged the Kingfield United Methodist Church to commit to help raise heating funds. Its members have undertaken a fundraising dinner and tables at craft fairs, and now this latest attempt to raise funds has been coordinated with the redemption center, he said.
While the church has raised funds, it doesn’t administer giving the money to families. Funds raised are split between the Salem Economical Ministry and the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund, a program of area churches administered through Western Maine Community Action in East Wilton.
