DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – A speeding car hit railroad tracks, went airborne and crashed early on New Year’s Day, killing all five people inside, police said.
When the car, going an estimated 89 mph in a 35 mph zone, came down, it slammed into a fire hydrant, a utility pole and a fence and was damaged so extensively, it “essentially disintegrated,” police Lt. Larry Faulkner said.
“It’s bent in half, like a sandwich,” Faulkner said.
Police suspect alcohol was involved.
According to Faulkner, two men, two women and a boy about 18 months old were killed in the crash.
