PORTLAND – Beverly S. Giancola of Portland passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Fallbrook Woods in Portland.
Beverly was born in Portland on March 24, 1923, the daughter of Everett R. and Mary W. (MacNeill) Souther. She was a 1941 graduate of Berwick Academy in South Berwick and enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), serving active duty until Feb. 23, 1945.
On March 4, 1945, she married Joseph A. Giancola, of New York City, in Kennebunk.
Beverly was a loving mother to six sons and worked as a nurse at the Osteopathic Hospital in Portland and Pine Point Manor, Scarborough.
She especially enjoyed the ocean, yard sales, antiques, bottle collecting, and was an owner of a gift shop for several years. Beverly loved poetry, and her poems were published by the Maine Poetry Fellowship, the Maine Writers Conference and the Portland Press Herald.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Giancola; and six sons, Michael J. Giancola of Phoenix Ariz., Peter J. Giancola of New Gloucester, Timothy N. Giancola of Scarborough, Jon A. Giancola of Dayton, David E. Giancola of Harpswell, James R. Giancola of Concord, N.H.; five grandchildren; and a sister, June E. Snow of Falmouth.
