PORTLAND – Patricia Petrella DeGrinney, 67, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Jan. 1, at Maine Medical Center. She was born in Bayonne, N.J., on June 22, 1941, the daughter of Daniel and Frances Petrella.
Patricia graduated from Bayonne High School in 1959. Following high school, she graduated from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. In 1963 she attended one year of medical school at Seton Hall.
On June 6, 1966, she married Dr. Joseph T. DeGrinney at the Assumption Parish in Bayonne, N.J.
Patricia taught at St. Dominic Regional High School in Lewiston for eight years, and she also taught at Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, Mass. She spent three years teaching at Bayonne High School and part of a year teaching at Cape Elizabeth.
Patricia was a past president and founding member of Maine Right to Life and was also a past president and founding member of Women Affirming Life.
Patricia was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister and lector, and sang in the choir. She also was involved with the Friends of Pine Point and helped plan the annual Fourth of July parade.
She is survived by her husband of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Joseph Timothy DeGrinney III and his wife, Susie, and John Paul DeGrinney and his wife, Gisele, and one daughter, Carolyn DeGrinney Mitchell and her husband, Daniel, all of Scarborough; eight grandchildren, Joseph Timothy DeGrinney IV, Nicholas Patrick DeGrinney, Robert Joseph Mitchell, Maureen Elizabeth DeGrinney, Meghan Eileen DeGrinney, George Daniel Mitchell, Grace Frances DeGrinney and Dominic Francis DeGrinney.
Patricia was predeceased by both of her parents; and her brother, Daniel Petrella.
