WEAVERVILLE, N.C. – Gerald M. Doucette Sr., 99, died peacefully in his home on Dec. 25, 2008, in Weaverville, N.C.
Formerly of Harrison, he was born in Haverhill, Mass., May 15, 1909, the son of John Eli and Anna Doucette.
He and his wife, Shirley, built and owned Lakeside Pines Campground in North Bridgton. He served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He retired from the Boston Mutual Life Insurance Co. as vice president and director of sales. He was the founder of the National Campground Owners Association and was its first president. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge. He had resided in Falmouth and Cape Elizabeth, Newport, R.I., Boston, Mass., and North Ft. Myers and Boca Raton, Fla.
He is survived by a brother, Donald Doucette of Westbrook; sons, Gerald M. Doucette Jr. of North Bridgton and Florida, and Robert L. Doucette of Weaverville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wives, Shirley Doucette and Ada Doucette; his daughter, Lynne Hackett; and grandson, John E. Doucette.
