PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) – A Maine man faces assault and threatening charges after allegedly biting one Portsmouth, N.H., police officer and grabbing another by the throat.

Police say 44-year-old Brian Smith of Kittery was heavily intoxicated when the officers tried to take him into custody early Monday morning. A scuffle broke out, and police used a Taser to subdue Smith.

Neither officer required hospitalization.
