LEWISTON – Joseph Henri Guy Deschaines, 87, of New Gloucester, died Friday, Jan. 2, at St. Margaret d’Youville Pavilion.
Guy was born in Keegan, Jan. 2, 1922, son of Xavier and Alice (Thibodeau) Deschaines. He was married to Christa Diaz. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Prior to his retirement, he worked in the woods industry for all of his working career.
He served in the army during World War II, and was featured in the article “Remembering a Band of Brothers” in the Nov. 10 to 11, 2007, edition of the Bangor Daily News.
Survivors include his wife of New Gloucester; a brother, Omer of Coventry, Conn.; a sister, Corinne Wade and husband, Franklin, of Greenfield, Mass.; eight half brothers and sisters, Joseph Armand Deschaines and wife, Monique, of Dedham, Merilda Plourde and husband, David, of Madawaska, Martha Hammond and husband, Stephen, of Scarborough, Paul Deschaines and wife, Patty, of South Portland, Marianne Deschaines of North Carolina, James Deschaines and wife, Beverly, John Deschaines and wife, Lisa, and Armande Pelletier and husband, Reynold, all of Van Buren; very special sisters-in-law, Simone Deschaines of Lewiston, Noella Deschaines of Caribou and Pauline Deschaines of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Leopauldine Lapierre in 1980; two sisters, Eva Martin and Lina Martin; and five brothers, Oswald, Gilbert, Adrien, Leo and Joseph Samuel.
