This is in response to the article printed Jan. 3, “Catch-22: Drivers using less fuel may push up gas tax to cover lost revenue.”

Now that gasoline and diesel fuel prices have lowered to more reasonable levels and there is less price-gouging by the oil companies, I guess it is time for the federal government to have its turn at gouging.

A federal commission, created by Congress, is recommending a 50 percent increase in gas and diesel fuel taxes. The commission has also recommended that states raise their fuel taxes.

Enough is enough.

When are elected state and federal representatives going to realize that the American consumer cannot and will not accept any more taxes?

The public has been gouged by the oil companies and now is on the verge of being gouged by federal and state governments.
