WATERFORD – The Waterford Library will offer a garden program at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, for anyone interested in an exchange of gardening ideas and in sharing seed orders from diverse catalogs with other local gardeners.
Shared seed orders will allow participants to try new varieties and small plantings without buying more seeds than needed. Several seed catalogs will be available for browsing.
Participants are encouraged to bring catalogs and share any experiences they have had ordering from various sources.
Jane Traill, an experienced gardener and a graduate of both the master gardener programs offered by the University of Maine, will be the facilitator. If there is an interest, this may develop into an ongoing program.
Participants will also be able to examine the extensive collection of garden books available in the library thanks to an endowment created in memory of Sheena Fraser, a native of England, Waterford resident and avid gardener.
The special collection contains more than 100 books on landscaping, vegetable gardening, perennials and annuals, including practical advice for both the master and the beginning gardener.
