Using your own bags, canvas or otherwise, is a green thing to do, but it also can save a little money each week.
Hannaford supermarket offers a 5-cent credit for each bag you bring. So, if you pack groceries in six cloth bags instead of six plastic store bags, the store will credit your bill 30 cents.
This credit, over six months, adds up to savings of $7.80. For bigger shopping trips, the savings is even more.
