Contractor Elwood Leighton digs down to get at a leaky coupling in a waterline Friday on Route 4 in Livermore Falls. A Livermore Falls Water District crew and Leighton had worked last weekend to repair two separate breaks in the 100-year-old water pipe. The first break was in front of the former Ben’s Variety near the Jay line and the second one was near Cumberland Farms. One of the couplings that was installed near Ben’s Variety started leaking after a pipe settled and had to be repaired Friday, District Superintendent Doug Burdo said. The line was scheduled to be fixed in 2003 when the state had initially planned to reconstruct that section of Route 4 but the project has been hold due to financing.
