RUMFORD – Elaine W. Kelly, 87, of Meadow Brook Terrace in Dixfield, and formerly of Penobscot St. in Rumford, died Jan. 8, at Rumford Community Home, following a long illness.

She was born in Rumford, Sept. 18, 1921, a daughter of Earl E. and Yvonne (Guilmette) Whynaught.

Elaine was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School class of 1940.

She married William A. Kelly on June 29, 1942, in Rumford. She was a switchboard operator with New England Telephone Co. and Oxford Paper Co.

Elaine enjoyed gardening and furniture refinishing.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, William A. Kelly of Dixfield; two sons, Thomas Kelly and wife, Elizabeth, and Timothy Kelly and wife, Martha, all of Dixfield; a daughter, Andrea K. Anastasio and husband, James, of Gardiner; six grandchildren, Thomas Kelly, Jr., Jennifer Murray, Jeffrey Kelly, William Kelly, Kimberly Huchel, and K.J. Anastasio; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Harris L. and James M. Whynaught.
