BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Bruins have placed center Phil Kessel, the team’s leading goal scorer, on injured reserve with mononucleosis.
The move means that Kessel will miss at least one week.
Kessel’s 24 goals are tied for third in the NHL and he also has 17 assists. Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli also announced that defenseman Matt Lashoff and goaltender Kevin Regan were assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate in Providence.
, while goaltender Tuukka (TOO’-kah) Rask and forward Martin St. Pierre were recalled from Providence on an emergency basis.
