AUBURN – Elizabeth “Betty” Richard, 68, a resident of Spruce Mt. Road in Livermore, died Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by her family after a very brief illness.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1940, in Augusta, the daughter of William and Pauline (Macmackin) Frith and was a 1959 graduate of Cony High School.
On Oct. 29, 1976, she married Raymond Richard in Wilton. He passed away on Aug. 25, 2001. She was employed at Hannaford Bros. in Jay in the deli department for the past 12 years, and had also worked at Future Foods in Livermore Falls.
She and her husband owned and operated Richards Mini Mart in Livermore for many years. In past years, she worked for Depositor’s Trust Co. in Augusta and also for the Maine State Police, setting up the uniform crime reporting division in the 1970s, where she also helped pass legislation for employee rights.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 10 of Livermore Falls, where she helped to coordinate and set up annual Christmas dinners for the past eight years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, where she earned the honor of Queen Mother. She was a member of the Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church in Livermore Falls, where she volunteered at the Tri-Town Ministerial Food Cupboard.
Betty was always a generous person and loved to help others and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, gardening, decorating, traveling and spending time with her daughter and family and friends. She will also be missed by her dog Brandi.
She is survived by her daughters, Tricia Cote and her husband, Casey, of Barre, Vt., and Kelli-Ann Iaciofano of Ohio; sisters, Elaine Hewett and her husband, Alan, of Westbrook, Marion Sides and her husband, Joe, of Copper Canyon. Texas, Diane Lathrop and her husband, Bill of Florida, and Edith Weymouth and her husband, Ralph, of Gardiner; and a brother, William Frith and his wife, Cindy, of Augusta.
She was predeceased by a son, Patrick McMillan; and her husband, Raymond.
