LEWISTON – The Lord took Gordon Gray Talbot, 80, of New Gloucester, to be with Him, Jan. 11, at Central Maine Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born in Utica, N.Y., the son of Clio E. Talbot and Jane G. Arnold, both deceased. He had one brother, Warren E., who is also deceased.

He married Janet Tuttle in 1949, who died in 1977, and had two children, David S. and adopted Carol J., who married Brent Pilkey of Ontario, Canada. Gordon married Katherine V. Haines Colby, 1979, who had seven children, Jana M Clum, George W., Karen M. Storman, Deborah L. Pastro, David J., Claudia M. Norton, and Calvin P.; 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

After graduating from Utica High School, he attended Houghton College and received a ministerial BA in 1949; Nyack College ministerial THB in 1951; Wheaton College Christian Ed. MA in 1956; and New York University Religious Ed PHD in 1968.

He pastored Community Church in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., from 1950 to 1952, C&MA Church Batavia, N.Y., 1952 to 1954.

He taught at Bryan College, Houghton College, Detroit Bible College, Canadian Bible College, Regina, Sask. and Winnipeg Bible College Otterburne, Mant. Administrative work, director of Christian education Union Park Baptist Church Des Moines, Iowa; chairman of steering committee and first president of National Association of Directors of Christian Education and president of Christian Schools Inc., Glen Cove.

Publications, writer of more than 200 articles for religious periodicals. Independent contract curriculum writer. Author of “The Breakdown of Authority, How to Study Your Bible, Overcoming Materialism,” A Study of the Book of Genesis.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Katherine and family.
