BRUNSWICK – Matt Reed turned a hat trick and also dished out an assist to lead Edward Little to its first win of the season with a 7-2 dispatching of Mt. Ararat in boys’ high school hockey action Monday.

Mat Gordon assisted on two of Reed’s goals and ended up with four assists for the game. Cody Russell added a pair of goals and Rich Belanger made 21 saves in net for the Red Eddies (1-8).

Boys’ basketball
Mtn. Valley 59, Madison 40

RUMFORD – Cam Kaubris hit for a pair of 3-pointers and for 14 total points to lead Mountain Valley to a 59-40 win over Madison in MVC basketball action Monday. Travis Ruff and Matt Laubauskas each scored 10 for the Falcons (8-2), while Cody Small led the Bulldogs (5-4) with 12.

Hall-Dale 78, Lisbon 34

FARMINGDALE – Ryan Leach led all scorers with 17 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Hall-Dale to a 78-34 victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday. Keith McGillivary chipped in with 14 for the 4-6 Bulldogs.

Steve Obie was the lone Greyhounds (0-10) player in double figures with 10 points.

Winthrop 82, Boothbay 72

WINTHROP – Andrew Smithgall poured in 26 points and hauled down 14 rebounds to lead four Winthrop players in double figures as the Ramblers rolled over Boothbay 82-72 on Monday. Zack Farrington (21), Skyler Whaley (15) and David Ketchen (10) also hit double digits for the Ramblers (8-2.

Dan Hallinan led the Seahawks (8-3) with 17.

Telstar 79, Carrabec 57

BETHEL – Dan Vaughn exploded for 31 points Monday to lead Telstar past Carrabec, 79-57, in MVC boys’ basketball.

Joel Putnam added 23 points for the Rebels (2-9), who surged to a 25-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and 44-22 at the half. R.J. Pinkham led the Cobras (2-9) with 26 points.

St. Dom’s 47, Freeport 43, OT

AUBURN – D.J. St. Pierre racked up 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots Monday, leading St. Dom’s to a 47-43 overtime WMC victory over Freeport.

The Saints (6-4) rallied from a 22-20 halftime deficit and outscored the Falcons 13-9 in the extra session. Aaron Allen added 10 points for the Saints. Peter Keaney chipped in nine.

Jon Klages topped Freeport (1-9) with 17 points. Cody Bartlett chipped in 13.

Wiscasset 85, Monmouth 35

MONMOUTH – Nick Hinkley amassed 28 points Monday and Jason Dennison added 20, leading Wiscasset to a 85-35 MVC rout of Monmouth.

Alex Slack contributed 10 points for the Redskins (10-1). Josh Davis and Corey Dyke each scored eight points to pace the Mustangs (1-10).

Girls’ basketball
Carrabec 58, Telstar 43

BETHEL – Alicha Stoddard poured in 14 points as Carrabec broke op a three-point game at halftime for a 58-43 win over Telstar in girls’ basketball action Monday.

Carrabec led 23-20 at the half, but outscored Telstar, 35-23 in the second half. Randi Kaplan added 11 points for Carrabec (7-4). Kayla Merrill scored a game-high 24 points for Telstar (2-9).

St. Dom’s 47, Freeport 42

FREEPORT – Allaina Murphy tallied 18 points and nine rebounds as St. Dom’s held off Freeport, 47-42, in girls’ basketball action Monday.

Mary Lewis pitched in with 11 points and Sarah Gosselin 10 for the Saints (6-4). Rachel Foster led Freeport (1-10) with 15 points, while Lucy Whitacre added 13.
