NORWAY – A garage was destroyed Sunday evening, apparently after a wood stove sparked a fire.

Fire Chief Michael Mann said the building was a total loss and estimated damage at $10,000. The garage on Hutchins Street, off Pleasant Street, was owned by Dale Durgin.

“It was pretty much burned flat,” said Assistant Chief Dennis Yates.

Yates estimated the garage to be about 15 by 15 feet. He said the garage contained mechanical equipment, including snowmobiles.

“It was like a small workshop,” Yates said.

The fire brought crews from the Norway, Paris, and Oxford fire departments, as well as Pace Ambulance and Norway police.

No one was injured.
