During my school’s red ribbon week, the eighth graders watched a video on drugs and alcohol. This video affected me greatly and I thought that I would be sick from some of the facts and graphics of the video.
I think that it was necessary that we watched this video because it taught us a lot and prepared us for what might come up as an option in our futures. The effects were disgusting and I don’t know why anyone would want a tube shoved down their throat and have the alcoholic poison sucked out from their stomach. People know what the effects of drugs and alcohol are and how they can hurt their bodies, and yet they continue to participate in these activities.
I learned that alcohol is the most commonly used drug in America. Also that binge drinking is when one repeatedly drinks with out stopping or taking breaks. Then one’s stomach gets filled with the poison and it has to be sucked out. Another important fact that I learned was that 60% of teenage deaths in car crashes are somehow involved with alcohol.
Getting into a car with an intoxicated person can pretty much be classified as suicide. Almost all people know that when getting into a car with a “drunk,” one has a pretty good chance of injury or even death! I don’t think that there is ever any reason not to get yourself out of a situation like that. A firm no and walking away should do the trick.
I think that the main reason people get involved in drugs or alcohol is to look cool in front of their friends. Peer pressure is a very powerful thing and a lot of children and teens get hurt by falling into peer pressure. If one’s friends really care for him, his friends would not try to get him to partake in this dangerous behavior.
Drugs and alcohol are very dangerous, and no one should be involved. No excuses! If one wants to try it only once, he or she has a pretty good chance of getting addicted and ruining his or her life. As said in the title, “Drug Free, That’s what I’ll Be.” Now you, as the reader, have to make your choice. Is being drug free for you? Think about it!
