On November 24, all Team 73 students (seventh graders) went to the auditorium to watch a movie called “A Place at the Table.” The movie was about where the kids in the movie came from, what it was like in their hometowns, and about their history that goes back for generations. They split up into different groups. They discussed and wrote down what they thought the definitions of hate, bias, discrimination, and prejudice meant. They discussed all of the words and the movie with their group.
The next day (Nov. 25) Team 73 students went back to the auditorium to present what they did in their groups the previous day. Every group did different presentations for their fellow students of Team 73. Some people did a skit and read, others said where they came from and read, some said where they came from and some did all the reading in their group, and some did all three. After we were done the skits, we watched another movie called “Prejudice.” The movie was all about how people dislike you because of your sex, your color, your religion, and a lot of other reasons to discriminate against you.
The teachers had these activities with students because they wanted the kids to be nicer to one another and accept all people.
