LEWISTON – Yvette L. Mercier, 89, of 72 Ricker Road, New Gloucester, passed away Monday, Jan. 12, at d’Youville Pavilion with her family at her side.
She was born in Lewiston, June 21, 1919, a daughter of Joseph and Alphonsine (Gagnon) Belinsky. She was educated in local schools, attended Holy Cross School and remained a lifelong resident of this area.
On Sept. 4, 1939, she married Armand R. Mercier, who predeceased her on Jan. 18, 1978. As she and her husband raised their family, she also worked those many years at Knapp Shoe until her retirement.
She grew up in and was a member of Holy Cross Parish and was a member of New Gloucester Senior Citizens, Robin Dow Senior Citizens, Lewiston Senior Citizens, Covenant 50 and Horizons 55. Among her favorite enjoyments in her free time were spending time at the family camp, playing cards, word search and bingo with her senior friends.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and because of her, five generations were produced.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
She leaves a daughter, Patricia Demers and husband, Andrew, of New Gloucester; a son, Armand (Sonny) Mercier and wife, Lucille, of New Gloucester; a son-in-law, Adelard Joncas and wife, Jeannette, of New Gloucester; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline Joncas, in 1990; five sisters; and one brother.
