FARMINGTON – An Industry man jailed at the Franklin County Detention Center on Thursday faces a felony charge of possession of firearms by a prohibited person.

Kyle J. Walton, 63, was arrested Tuesday after Franklin County Sheriff’s Department officers searched his 12 Plouffe Road home and discovered 14 firearms and several thousand rounds of ammunition, Deputy David Rackliffe said.

Walton has been running a business, K.C.’s Obsolete and Hard to Find Ammunition, from a structure on his property, Rackliffe said.

Police began an investigation after a woman made a civil property complaint. She disclosed behavior descriptive of stalking, and police arrested him on misdemeanor charges of stalking and unlawful sexual contact, Rackliffe said. The alleged contact took place last fall.

Walton has previous felony convictions dating from 1962 to 1995 from Auburn, Augusta and Farmington courts. One charge was for gross sexual assault and two were for possession of firearms by a prohibited person, Rackliffe said.

Walton made an initial appearance in court Wednesday where bail was set at $5,000 cash, said a jail intake officer. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 24.

Because it is not only a state but also federal offense for a felon to possess firearms, Rackliffe has alerted the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms but he was unsure whether it would pursue the case.

Local police are interested in talking to anyone who purchased a firearm from Walton within the past few years. They are asked to call 778-2680.
